It’s Derby Time

by | May 2, 2016 | Market News

For all you horse racing fans nothing is more exciting than the kickoff of the Triple Crown.  All the preliminary races for the horses over the past year vying for a spot in the prestigious Kentucky Derby is kind of how we feel over the winter months.  We have been working diligently over the past five months getting ready for the race in the spring.  I know these past 10 days have been wet and cool, but it is inevitable that the sun will shine and the soil temps will rise and the planters will be rolling.

Our greenhouse is full of blooming flowers and transplants that will be planted in the next coming weeks and the anticipation becomes a reality as we get a jump out of the gates.  We started planting on the 15th of April and our first sweet corn is at spike stage (just poking out of the ground).  Peas and radishes are up and you can see the rows.  This coming week we will start transplanting cabbage, Napa cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower that we started in the greenhouses.   The race has begun and we are yet to the first turn but we are in the lead and expect to go wire to wire.  Hang on to the reigns because we are a long way from the finish line but my gut tells me we are going to finish strong.
