May News From the Field

by | May 2, 2015 | Market News

With April showers out of the way, May comes in with a bang. It is the busiest month for planting our main season crops and with due diligence and the help of the man upstairs everything will germinate and prosper in the field. Today we have 3 different planters, one planting sweet corn, another planting green beans and the other transplanting Brussels sprouts that were in the greenhouse. The transplanter requires 10 people to make it efficient and the other planters are one man operations.

What do I do on a day like this? My main job is to facilitate the people planting. Making sure that the right varieties are in sequential order, seed depth and spacing are good then I check up on the other guys. We will plant 3 different varieties of sweet corn today, two different varieties of green beans, 4 different varieties of lettuce, another planting of beets and peas. Tomorrow is another day, Happy Trails!
