March Plant of the Month

by | Mar 6, 2015 | Market News

Bailey Nurseries does it again with a new addition to the Endless Summer Collection. The 2014 introduction of Endless Summer Bloomstruck follows on the heels of the original Endless Summer, the second Endless Summer Blushing Bride, and the third Endless Summer Twist-N-Shout.

Bloomstruck is bred by the famous Dr. Michael Dirr, a legend in the horticulture world, who is known as the great Hydrangea Guru for his exceptional research on Hydrangeas. Dr. Dirr is also the author of the book “Manual of Woody Landscape Plants” and has become somewhat of a bible for the landscape and nursery industry.

Bloomstruck promises to be the best of the everblooming hydrangeas yet. It blooms on old and new growth with mop head blooms 3 1/2 – 5” across. As with all other hydrangeas the flowers can be pink, purple, blue, or as Bailey’s describes it, blurple, depending on the pH level of the soil. What makes Bloomstruck so unique is the striking Red-Purple stems that are sturdy and hold the flowers upright complimented by the dark green leaves that turn a deep burgundy color in the fall. Even when Bloomstruck is not in bloom the color of the plant is striking on its own. Bloomstruck has good heat tolerance and plenty of flowers to cut for fresh or dried arrangements.

Bloomstruck will be available at Pahl’s Market in the Spring.
