Harvest Event – Green Bean Pick

by | Aug 2, 2018 | CSA Member Updates

[ NOTE: Our CSA Newsletter included incorrect content regarding the sweet corn and green bean harvest shares for the 2018 season.  CSA members will be welcomed out into the field to pick their shares this season.  The green pick is currently going on, see details below.  Stay tuned for details on the sweet corn pick.   ]

Next Harvest Event – Green Bean Pick

The green bean field will be open to all CSA members starting this Saturday, August 4th throughout the entire week and next weekend.  Members are welcome to visit the green bean field from 8am to dusk Saturday, August 4th through Sunday, August 12th.  This harvest event is while supplies last.

Directions to the green bean picking field:
County Road 42 to Biscayne Avenue, go south ½ block to Boulder Trail and turn right (heading west) if you hit gravel road you’ve gone too far, follow around to the cul-de- sac.
OR
160th street (County Road 46) to Biscayne Avenue, go north ¾ of a mile to Boulder Trail (paved road), take a left and follow to the end of the cul-de- sac.

We received rain today so please park in the street if the field is wet, or you will get stuck.  Please park, walk 100 yards to the south and follow the signs to the bean field.   If it dries up you are welcome to hop the curb and drive back to the field.

There will be no restroom facilities at this field location (not even a biffy), please plan accordingly!

I have not done the harvest share before. Is there an additional charge for these?

There is no additional charge for the harvest share! Each CSA membership receives either a 1/2 bushel of green beans or 4 dozen sweet corn.

Thank you so much for the wonderful boxes! I signed up to pick up beans, but I cannot remember which day I signed up for (I think I’m getting old). I believe it was Wed, Aug 17; is that correct?

These shares are awesome! Do you have an idea of how long the canning/freezing seminar will last?

It shouldn’t be more than an hour or so. We will go through Grandma Pahl’s freezing sweet corn recipe and then open it up to questions. We will also have handouts available for how to preserve green beans and tomatoes.

Thanks for your question Wendy. Please check your email, I sent over the handouts from yesterday’s seminar on freezing sweet corn and green beans. I keep missing the events in the email. Must read better. I just signed up for corn – I hope it’s not too late. We really love the teaser share this year. It’s just the right amount for 2 people. We are finding it much easier to use up everything each week and not have it go to waste. Great variety too. Thanks Pahls!!
