News from the Farmer

A batch of frost last week had us in for a scare.  Frost that settles onto delicate plants such as peppers and tomatoes has the ability to end a harvest season in a short hurry.  Frost that settles on pumpkins and squash tends to leave frost marks which renders the crop almost unusable.  Luckily for us, we have ways to combat it.  All of the vines on our pumpkin and squash crops were still standing during that cold night and sheltered the fruit below from frost settling on them.  Thank goodness!  In short, we continue to harvest on, and we are thankful for that!  As we push further into the Fall season, we have started to harvest pumpkins and other specialty fall crops including, Indian corn, mini pumpkins, corn shocks and gourds.  All of these things will make their way into your share boxes at some point in time.  This weekend we are having our Harvest Days celebration at the market and I will be present both Saturday and Sunday to share with you how our 2014 season has been progressing as well as take questions and concerns so that we can make the 2015 CSA season even better.  I look forward to seeing you!
