News from the Farmer

It would be safe to say that last week had its ups and downs out in the field where temperatures exceeded the mid-90’s.  Working through weather like that requires a lot of water breaks and time in the shade in order to prevent heat exhaustion.  All of our projects naturally take longer because of the heat, which can destroy morale in a hurry.  Honestly, the heavy rains on Saturday afternoon were welcomed with open arms, considering how fast the temperature can drop from a cold front like that.  Though the weather this week is supposed to be cooler, there are still many things to accomplish every day.  Peppers are now coming into season, while zucchini and yellow squash should be cut every day if possible.  Cucumbers, green beans, sweet corn, cabbage and many other crops need to be tended to as well.  August is just a week away and will be our next chapter in the season.  Let’s hope it’s a great month in the fields and in turn an excellent month in the farm share program.

Have a wonderful share week!
