A typical day starts at 6:45. All of the assignments for our various crews are decided the night before but could be subject to change in the early morning depending on orders that may arrive. On top of these orders and going from field to field, deciding what to put into the farm share each week depends on what is is season that particular week and how much of it we have. CSA share contents are typically decided on Saturday or Sunday, leading into the new share week. Making sure that we have enough of each crop can prove very difficult sometimes. It all begins before the season when ordering seed and trying to get a good figure of just how much of each seed to buy. As the season progresses, crops are subject to many different issues. Weed and pest control can sometimes kill off plants and bad weather has its way of doing so as well. This is why we always like to plant more than enough to account for mid season loss. Come harvest, and speaking for most specialty crops, aside from the usuals, we like to pick only once, not multiple times. This helps to ensure our numbers are more than enough. All in all, there are many different factors that go into a given CSA week. We strive each week to give you only the freshest and finest.
