Ornamental Corn

by | Sep 23, 2014 | Market News

Used widely for fall decorating and creative crafts such as centerpieces, wreaths and displays, ornamental corn is available in a wide variety of colors.  The kernels are hard, so the corn has a long shelf life.  Some people even store the ears from year to year in a cool dry place such as a metal, animal-proof container.  A question that is occasionally asked is if ornamental corn is edible.  Definitely not raw–the kernels are much too hard!  And if one were to try it cooked, the taste would be bland, not sweet.  So it’s best to just enjoy it for decorative purposes only.
