Wow, week 12 already – only one month left of the 2022 CSA season! Remember, there are still two Harvest Events left – The Apple Pick and the Pumpkin Pick. While we would love to be able to give you exact dates for the remaining harvest events we are still waiting on answers from Mother Nature. The Apple Pick will be either the weekend of September 24th & 25th or the weekend of October 1st & 2nd. The Pumpkin Pick will be either the weekend of October 8th & 9th or October 15th & 16th. Last shares boxes of the season will be distributed on Wednesday, October 12th and Thursday, October 13th.
Everyone has been anxiously awaiting information about canning tomatoes, thanks for your patience! We are offering 1/2bu boxes of canning tomatoes to our CSA members for $15 each, no limit when ordering. Canning tomato orders must be picked up at Pahl’s Market in Apple Valley this week. Apples are making their first appearance in the shares this week! The Zestar! apple is a wonderful early season MN grown apple, it is crisp, juicy, and great for eating or baking. Zestar! apples have a sweet tart taste with hints of brown sugar. They do brown fairly quickly, so if you are going to use them in a salad or charcuterie you might want to toss them in a little bit of lemon juice after slicing. Apples are an excellent source of vitamins A and C and dietary fiber.
