CSA Update – We Love a Heat Wave!

by | Jun 1, 2018 | Market News

You may be less excited about the sweltering heat of the last week, but the warm weather is really helping push our plants along. In fact, we’re actually ahead of last years pace.  Cabbage is looking awesome and the first sweet corn is nearly a foot tall.  Our peppers and cucumbers are really starting to look nice. We have 25 acres just for peppers! We plant a variety of peppers including bell, jalapeno, and poblano.  This past week we started planting winter squash and as soon as the ground dries out from the 1.6 inches of rain we received, we’ll be planting our pumpkin crops.

Now that things are progressing, it’s time to start the long journey of cultivating our crops to keep the weeds out and get oxygen into the root systems. Hopefully in the next few days, as the soil dries again, we will be able to keep on our planting schedule and continue to cultivate and hoe.

All in all, it’s time to start taking care of the crops we’ve planted, and it won’t be too long before we get our first taste of homegrown vegetables for the 2018 season.

Will I be able to pick up my box at any time the store is open after 1:30pm or is there specific hours? I pick up at Cottage Grove Von Hansen’s.
