We made it through January and now our thoughts turn to Moss Basket Days just around the corner in March and a new event for us in February. Our first “Plant a Seed Workshop” will be on Saturday, February 9th at 11:00 AM. We are excited to offer this to you.
Our seminar will encompass starting seeds for spring. We will discuss when to start specific plant seeds, growing medium, types of containers to use, light and watering needs, and how to prepare your tender plants to make their journey to the great outdoors. You then will be able to plant your choice of a tomato or pepper plant seed. Your first seed, soil, and container is FREE OF CHARGE. If you would like to plant any additional tomato or pepper seeds there is a nominal price of $1.00 each. You may take your plantings home with you or we are offering to germinate them for you in the warmth of our greenhouse. After the seedlings immerge we will have you pick them up and take them to your home to continue growing. This will be about two weeks later around the end of February.
We will have the market open on Saturday February 9th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for your convenience. For this first time seed workshop we will only offer the tomato or pepper seeds as an option to plant that day. You are welcome to listen to the seminar at 11:00 AM and purchase different seeds to start in your home if the tomato or pepper plants are not of interest to you. All of our spring seed starting supplies are out and waiting for you. We carry seeds by Ferry Morse, Lake Valley, Burpee, and Botanical Interest. In stock we also have heated seed mats, domes, seed trays, fiber pots, fiber pellets, seed starting soil, and complete seed starting kits.
If you have never attended our Moss Basket Days in March, you are missing a fun time. The greenhouse is heated up, the smell of dirt and plants fill the air, and you have your first opportunity to get dirt under your fingernails. If you are not familiar with our famous Moss Basket Days, let me fill you in. We give you the opportunity to plant your flower plugs on either March 2nd, 5th, or 9th and then we take care of them until the beginning of May. At that point you pick up your gorgeous flower basket for your deck or front porch. It is full and beautiful. There is no waiting all summer long for your basket to fill in.
