I know this is not the best time of the year to do an article on roses, but when I heard that Screaming Neon Red Rose had won top prize at the Biltmore International Rose Trials, and it is a rose that I am familiar with, I couldn’t resist telling people about it.

I was fortunate enough to get a sample of Screaming Neon Red Rose from Baileys Nursery the year before it was added to their Easy Elegance Rose Collection. I did not have room in my flower bed where I have some Winnipeg Parks roses, so I planted it in my neighbors yard on the opposite side of the fence from my roses.

I have been able to observe this Rose for a few years now and notice that when I am spraying my roses for black spot the foliage of the Screaming Neon Red Rose on the other side is clean and shiny without spraying. Even with the Japanese Beetles, I am spraying my roses but the Screaming Neon Rose does not have a beetle on it. When I am pruning and dead heading my roses, the Screaming Neon Rose on the other side of the fence is full of blooms without pruning. Now it is the end of the season and my roses have very few leaves on but the Screaming Neon Red Rose is full to the ground with rich foliage even after many nights of frost. So it’s true, roses are always greener on the other side of the fence.
