Employee Name:  Mary Jo Schmit

Number of years of service at Pahl’s:  This is my 4th season working at Pahl’s

Briefly describe your job duties at Pahl’s:
I am a jack of all trades; master of none.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I enjoy chatting with customers about what brings them to Pahl’s along with getting to know them a bit. You never know who you will run into at Pahl’s!

Tell us about your family.
I have a son, Matthew, who is 28 and married to Haylie. They live in the Madison area (Go Badgers!). I have another son, Joseph, who is 25 and lives in Lakeville. And a daughter, Monica, who is attending college at UW-Stout.

What is your favorite time of day/day of the week/month of the year? Why?
I enjoy all seasons but especially like the Winter season as it means good family time and people are generally in very good moods.

What is your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
I really enjoy being outside in the yard doing gardening and in Lebanon Hills Regional Park where I do volunteer work.

What is the farthest you have been away from home?  Tell us the most unique experience from that trip?
When my kids were little, we used to vacation on Grand Bahama Island with their Grandparents. What more could you ask for….take the elevator down, walk past the pool, right on to the beach. We had amazing family time walking the beach, making sand castles, and playing in the ocean.

What are three things on your “Bucket List” ?
1. To live on a lake.
2. To be able to retire.
3. To spend more time with my kids.

What do you miss most about being a kid?
I miss my dad who grew up on a farm and owned  a roofing and siding business. He had a heart of gold, good work ethic, and loved all nine of us kids more than anything in the world.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would like to learn to relax more.

What was the first thing you bought with your own money?
A white winter jacket from United Stores.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick to be your mentor? Why?
I would pick President Jimmy Carter. He has so much compassion for people in need and continues to be a activist to this day.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
I would buy a new cell phone, that Motorola from 2006 just isn’t cutting it anymore!

Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
Ashley Spinelli

What is your all time favorite movie?
Pride and Prejudice!

What song do you play the most often?
John Mellencamp – both Small Town and Pink Houses

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Sold my Harley Davidson motorcycle.
