    Last spring I nervously planted a Velvet Viking Japanese Maple purchased here in the far corner of my yard and I noticed yesterday that new buds were forming from the main stem of the plant. It survived its first MN winter! All I really did was water it often over the summer and fall due to the drought conditions and added a deep mulch in the fall and that seems to have been enough.
