Create Your Outdoor Lifestyle

by | Feb 10, 2016 | Landscaping, Market News

As spring is rapidly approaching, now is the perfect time to start thinking of your plans for the upcoming landscaping season. A popular trend is creating your very own unique outdoor living area.  This is a great way to take advantage of the wonderful seasons Minnesota has to offer in the comfort of your very own landscape.   Today, outdoor kitchens mean much more than just a grill with some lawn chairs and a cooler of frosty beverages, they now offer the same conveniences as indoor kitchens.  There are several things to consider when planning for your outdoor living area; whether it’s a paver patio, fire place, or outdoor kitchen.

Paver Patio

On those first warm days of spring, a patio tucked into a sunny or shady area of the backyard begs you to spend time outside. Throughout summer and into fall, that versatile outdoor room can be a solitary retreat or a place to entertain guests. Pavers are a versatile, landscaping material that can be used for laying paths, steps, driveways, pool surrounds, and patios throughout your landscape. Pavers have been used for thousands of years to improve comfort and for creating places in which friends and family can gather. While patios can be created with many materials, it’s hard to beat one made from pavers for ease of installation, low maintenance, and ease of repair. The initial cost may be slightly higher than other options, but you’ll save money in the long run and pavers will long outlive any other type of material.

Outdoor Fireplaces

Everybody loves a good outdoor fire. When the sun goes down and the night air gets chilly, nothing beats enjoying the warmth and ambiance of sitting next to a fire, whether it be a fire-ring, a wood burning fireplace or a gas fireplace.  Lighting a fire is pleasantly soothing but which structure, a fireplace or fire pit, is the best choice? Each one has its own list of benefits and limitations. Fireplaces do a good job blocking the wind, offering more privacy, and is a great anchor for an outdoor room. Fire pits entertain more people all facing each other which encourages more conversation, are less expensive, and easier to incorporate built in seating.  Before planning your landscape project, check with your local zoning commissions for building restrictions and required construction permits.

Outdoor Kitchens

An outdoor kitchen expands your living space and allows you to cook, eat and entertain without having to book a reservation. If you like to entertain by having family and friends over you may want to think about the outdoor kitchen option. There is a lot you can include in an outdoor kitchen; such as grills, side burners, smokers, pizza ovens, refrigerator and much more. When planning the layout for your outdoor kitchen think about how you will be entertaining. whether you’d like to go simple with a grill and counter space or a full on kitchen with multiple amenities. Make sure you plan for a big enough sitting area away from the kitchen so you have room to move and walk around without any problems.
