Every year Pahl’s Landscaping department does a wide variety of projects throughout the area. We are excited to start a new series in our newsletter where we will be sharing the details of some of the landscape projects we’ve completed.
First up is a project we completed in Apple Valley last spring. It was an exciting project that included removals, hardscapes and plant material installation.
We met with the homeowner to talk through their vision for the landscape project. It was important to them to have some privacy from the neighbor’s hockey rink. They also wanted a patio with a sitting area and a fire pit. We discussed all the different product options available, such as paver type & color, edging, fireplace style, plant material and mulch variety.
We marked out the area where the patio and fire pit were going to be installed and the bed lines for the edgings. There were two trees in the spot where the homeowner wanted the patio and fire pit, so removing those was first on the to-do list, along with sod removal in the same area. We then dug out the patio area.
We first brought in class 5 eight inches thick and compacted every two inches for the base of the patio. The next step was to bring in soil for the berm and the limestone outcroppings that were used for seating. Once we had the berm built and outcroppings were in place we began to finish the final touches of the base for the patio.
We then were able to install the fire pit and pavers. The homeowner chose a beautiful Sante Fe color fire pit from the Rockwood Fireplace Kit collection and complemented it with Minnetonka pavers in the same color, both from Rochester Concrete Products. We installed poly edging surrounding the new landscaped area and planted 5 Techny Arborvitae in the berm for some screening. We also sprinkled Preen and installed cypress mulch throughout the landscape bed.
There is nothing like seeing the smiling faces of the homeowners once a job is completed! It is one of the best parts of creating the perfect outdoor oasis for our customers. We’d love to help create a beautiful landscape for you as well, click here to contact us for a free estimate.
