Employee Name: Jacob Shirk

Number of years of service at Pahl’s: Two Years

Briefly describe your job duties at Pahl’s:
As a carry-out, my jobs and responsibilities change with the seasons, but for the most part I am working with customers to help them find the right thing to get the job done and help them load that into their cars.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is helping a customer find what they are looking for, especially during the winter months where I help people find the perfect Christmas tree.

Tell us about your family:
My family is filled with some of the most kind and compassionate people I have met.

What is your favorite time of the year? Why?
My favorite month of the year has to be November because here in Minnesota we can enjoy both the beauty of fall as it comes to a close and also the beginning of the first snowfalls of winter. I also love Thanksgiving because it brings family together and everyone’s favorite part, the food!

What is your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
It is hard to just choose one thing, but some of my favorite activities are playing guitar, skiing or snowboarding, and just trying and learning new things.

What is the farthest you have been away from home?
The farthest I have been away from home was when my family and I went down to Orlando Florida to go to Disney World. One thing I will always remember from that trip was getting off the plane then getting in line to use the restroom at the airport terminal and then looking up to see that we were right behind Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. It was awesome to be within arms reach of one of America’s greatest rock stars, and was even greater to see this hard-core rocker walking away with a small rolling travel-case with two little purse dogs inside of it.

What are three things on your “Bucket List”?
Three things on my bucket list are to backpack through Europe, have owned a boat, and travel all around the world.

What do you miss most about being a kid?
I like to think that I still am nearly a kid at the old age of seventeen, but I would have to say not worrying about securing a future for myself as I look at schools and different career opportunities it can be a little overwhelming at times.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I would learn how to play the saxophone.

What was the first thing you bought with your own money?
I can’t remember exactly, but it was probably food.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick to be your mentor? Why?
My Dad because he was a very handy man who knew a lot of skills, and was a friend to everyone he met.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
I would probably pay for my college tuition, by a house and split the rest with family and charity.

Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
I am not too fond of this, and I am not too sure how my friend found this, but they discovered an uncanny resemblance to me and President Obama’s mom.

What is your all time favorite movie?
My favorite movie of all time is Men in Black.

What song do you play the most often?
I like to listen to Led Zeppelin’s Over the Hills and Far Away.
