Employee Name:  Zachary Smith

Number of years of service at Pahl’s: 5 years

Briefly describe your job duties at Pahl’s:
For the most part I run the Customer Service desk assisting customers check out, return items, and answering questions. I also frequently help with other tasks that often involve lifting large items and assisting customers load their vehicles.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing how much people love coming to get fresh and local produce during the summer and fall.

Zach & MomTell us about your family:
My mother (Patti) and brother (Tanner) work with me here at Pahl’s. During the summer we like to take trips up to our cabin with my dad (Dave). We also have 2 cats, Violet and Blaze, as well as an Irish Setter named Copper.

What is your favorite month of the year? Why?
My favorite month of the year has to be March. Not only is March the month of my birthday but it also is often the first month that the snow begins to melt and we get to shed our jackets for sweatshirts and shorts.

What is your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
My favorite activity would be swimming. Having swam competitively for 7 years I really had to love being around water. I still greatly enjoy getting up to the cabin to spend all day in the lake or making my way out to see friends in Eau Claire, WI and taking an afternoon to hop on some tubes to float down the river.

What is the farthest you have been away from home?  Tell us the most unique experience from that trip?
The farthest I have been from home on my own was Coronado Island in California. The trip out there was a 10 day training trip with the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire swim team. The best experience from that trip was our day off where a group of us took the city busses 20 miles north to go surfing in La Jolla, CA and going out to dinner in Downtown San Diego.

What are three things on your “Bucket List”?
1Take a road trip down Route 66
2.  Ride a jetski in the ocean
3.  Restore a classic car

What do you miss most about being a kid?
Since going off to college the one thing I miss the most about being a kid is that I did not have to pay bills or rent.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
The one thing I most want to learn to do is restore and maintain classic automobiles. I have already started trying to rebuild a 1974 Honda motorcycle.

What was the first thing you bought with your own money?
The first thing I bought with my own money was 2 CD’s for the car when I turned 16. Endgame by Rise Against and You Get What You Give by Zac Brown Band

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick to be your mentor? Why?
I would choose Carol Shelby to mentor me. I think he would be a great mentor because of the influence he had on performance in the automotive industry.

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
I would buy my dream car, a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T, and a house with a big garage.

Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
When I grow out my beard I often get mistaken for Yukon Cornelius, better known to most as the Lumberjack from the Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer movie.

What is your all time favorite movie?
The movie I will never get tired of watching would be The Book of Eli.

What song do you play the most often?
The song that I play most often would be “Leave The Night On” by Sam Hunt.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
The hardest thing I ever did was swim competitively. It often ended up being a year round sport with maybe 4 or 5 weeks total off between swimming for Lakeville North in the winter and swimming club in the summer and fall. During the high school season practices would often have us swimming 7 or 8 thousand yards. For me it all came down to working on bettering myself and racing the clock for faster times.
