FIRST EDITIONS PINK SPARKLER BIRCHLEAF SPIREA

Our April plant of the month is Pink Birchleaf Spirea.  It was originally bred in France and brought to us from Baileys Nursery in Afton Minnesota.  Baileys Nursery added the Pink Birchleaf Spirea to their First Editions line of plants selected for success.

When you say Spirea, some people’s first thought is a large, woody, overgrown  shrub that needs a haircut; but this is not your Grandmas Spirea, this is a Birchleaf Spirea.  This small deciduous shrub is easy to grow and has a rounded shape that requires very little pruning. It is tight a mounded shrub with dark green little birch-leaf like leaves that turn a lovely shade of burgundy red in autumn. But the reason why everyone is so excited about this new Birchleaf Spirea is the pink flowers! Pink Sparkler blooms in early summer with large pink flowers.  If you trim off the old flowers after bloom it will re-bloom again in autumn. Minimal maintenance, re-blooming flowers, and multi-season pink colors are sure to make Pink Sparkler a favorite in your garden.
