Will Parker Pears ripen after being picked?

by | Mar 17, 2010 | Resources, Market News, Ask Pahl's Market

Dear Dee:

A neighbor has given us some Parker pears from his tree. They are totally green, the seeds are white and the flesh is hard. Will this fruit ripen after being picked, and how can I tell when it is? Thank you.

Answer:

The pears your neighbor gave you will certainly ripen, just give them some time. They will gradually soften, turn yellow, and they’ll smell delicious! That’s when you’ll know they are ready. Thanks for writing.
