It’s Week 9 of our CSA journey, and even the blazing heat can’t deter our fields from producing an abundance of goodness. As you unveil this week’s share, you’ll find a mix of familiar favorites and a delightful newcomer to keep your taste buds intrigued.
I know that when it’s this hot the last thing I want to do is turn on the oven, or even the grill. A lot of the items in this week’s share are perfect for enjoying alfresco-style, with minimal cooking required. Whether you’re whipping up a fresh coleslaw, indulging in beet and kohlrabi salads, or simply snacking on bell peppers and strawberries, you can keep the heat out of the kitchen and embrace the heat outdoors.
New on the scene this week is green cabbage. Its sturdy leaves are a canvas for creativity – roll them up for cabbage wraps, ferment them for sauerkraut, or shred them into a crunchy side dish. The Cabbage-Kohlrabi Slaw is a family recipe shared by a long-time member and is a delicious, refreshing way to use the cabbage and kohlrabi in this weeks share. Harvest Event shares of Sweet Corn will be available to pickup at Pahl’s Market starting Thursday, August 24th and will continue through Wednesday, August 30th.
