The trend for breeding smaller plants continues with Baby Lace Hydrangea. It is an all pop Hydrangea with creamy white, cone-shaped flowers. Its flowers are similarly shaped like Limelight Hydrangea but differ as it is a 4 x 4 compact plant. Baby Lace Hydrangea was developed by one of the worlds foremost Horticulturist and breeder, Dr. Michael Dirr.
Baby Lace’s greatest attribute is the sturdy stems. I have been selling Hydrangeas for a very long time, and the most common complaint I hear from customers is that Hydrangeas are too floppy. I personally don’t like messy looking shrubs. Baby Laces sturdy stems hold the flowers upright even after heavy rains.
Baby Lace thrives in bright, sunny areas, and makes a wonderful cut flower fresh or dried. Soil PH does not affect bloom color. The best time to prune Baby Lace is in early spring since it’s flower buds on new wood.
