It is hard to believe we will be welcoming October in a few short days! These last couple of weeks of the CSA season are going to fly by, last share box distribution will be Wednesday 10/12 & Thursday 10/13. We have finally nailed down dates for the Apple Pick – Saturday, October 15th & Sunday, October 16th. We will send out more details by the end of the week, but please save the date!
You will notice we are offering another round of canning tomatoes at $15 each 1/2bu to our CSA members. If your box of canners contains tomatoes that are not fully ripened, they will continue to ripen off the vine if you leave them in the cardboard box they came in. Be sure to continuously check the tomatoes and remove the ripened ones from the box. Alternatively, your share of canning tomatoes could be fully ripened and ready to can. Members will enjoy two varieties of winter squash in their share this week, Spaghetti and Buttercup. Spaghetti squash is Farmer Cole’s favorite variety of winter squash. While you will find several different ways to prepare it, his favorite is to simply substitute it for noodles and pair it with breaded chicken, cheese and spaghetti sauce!
