How can you best prepare your lawn for spring?

by | Mar 10, 2010 | Resources, Market News, Ask Pahl's Market

Dear Dee,

My lawn really suffered during that long dry spell we had this summer. Is there anything I can do now to give it a fresh start next spring?

Lackluster Lawn Louie

Dear Louie,

An application of fertilizer in late fall (late Oct.-early Nov.) is highly recommended. Before applying, make sure to rake up any leaves covering your lawn. Apply a standard lawn fertilizer and water it in unless rain is expected. This late application will encourage root growth. It will also promote earlier greening and thicker grass next spring. Do not mow the lawn too short-allow it to go into winter at a height of about 2 inches.

Sincerely Dee
