What is a Meezoo?

by | Mar 10, 2010 | Resources, Market News, Ask Pahl's Market

Dear Dee,

I have friends that have purchased a plant from your store called a Meezoo. I’m wanting to know what kind of plant this is and if you have anymore available. I’m guessing it is some kind of sedum or succulent. I haven’t been able to see any pictures of it online. Thanks

Dear Cheryl,
The plant you are referring to is a dorotheanthus called trailing mezoo.  This is a  plant with succulent green leaves edged with white, occasionally accented with button-sized red flowers.  Mezoo Trailing Red is a glossy green succulent with cream margins that can be used as a groundcover or as a spiller plant in mixed containers and baskets. The red in its name comes from dime-sized flowers that accent the plant. It is tolerant of wet or dry conditions and high or low pH. In other words, anyone can grow this plant anywhere. This plant can be a perennial in zones 9-11. In zones 3-8 it is an annual only. Here in zone 4 we grow this beautiful plant as an annual.  We do not have any left this year but will have some next Spring in with our other annuals.  You will be able to see a picture of it if you go to our website www.pahls.com and do a search in our plant library.  Just key in the word dorotheanthus and then click on it to see a photo of the plant.  It is fun to try different annuals each year and this plant was definitely popular.  Next Spring we can provide you with one of your own.

Thanks.  Dee
