This Saturday, we’re excited to welcome Sustainable Safari for two wildlife shows, one from 10–11 a.m. and another from 12–1 p.m. These educational and entertaining shows are included with festival admission at no additional cost, making this a perfect weekend to experience something truly unique.

On Sunday, PawPaw’s Snowball food truck will be here serving delicious sweet treats to enjoy during your visit.

🚜 From the Field: Thank You for Sharing the Harvest With Us

As we reach the end of another CSA season, we want to take a moment to simply say thank you!

A lot happens before a CSA box ever reaches your hands. Months before the first pickup, we’re planning crops, ordering seed, preparing fields, and starting plants. Once spring arrives, the pace picks up quickly with planting, irrigating, scouting, weeding, and caring for acres of vegetables.

Then comes the part you’ve experienced alongside us all summer: the harvest. Our crews head into the fields to pick what’s ready, produce is brought back to the farm to be cooled, sorted, and packed, and all the individual shares are assembled and delivered to pickup locations. Then we start all over again for the following week.

We can grow it, harvest it, and pack it, but after all that work, there’s one final step that might be the most important of all: bringing the harvest to your table.

You wash them, cook them, try new recipes, preserve some for later, share them with family and friends, and occasionally figure out what in the world to do with a vegetable you’ve never seen before! That’s what makes CSA different. You’re not simply buying produce. You’re participating in the harvest and experiencing the growing season right alongside us.

From those first boxes of early-season vegetables to summer sweet corn and tomatoes and now the squash, cabbage, apples, and other hearty crops of September, you’ve been with us through another Minnesota growing season.

We know there are plenty of places you can buy your groceries, and we genuinely appreciate that you’ve chosen to get a portion of yours directly from our farm. Your support allows us to keep doing what generations of the Pahl family have done before us: grow food for our community.

Thank you for supporting local agriculture, trying something new, and most importantly, for sharing the harvest with us.

What’s in the Box? 🥕🍎

This week’s share is full of hearty, versatile vegetables that lend themselves to roasting, soups, sautés, and other comforting meals. With crisp SweeTango® apples for snacking and a jalapeño or two for a little heat, there’s plenty of variety packed into the box.

Here’s what’s inside:

  • 🎃 Acorn Squash
  • 🌿 Leeks
  • 🍎 SweeTango® Apples
  • 🥕 Carrots
  • 🧅 Yellow Onion
  • 🥬 Collard Greens
  • 🌶️ Jalapeños
  • 🥬 Green Cabbage

🎃 Acorn Squash: Cut it in half, scoop out the seeds, and roast until tender. Butter and brown sugar make a classic sweet preparation, or go savory with olive oil, garlic, herbs, and Parmesan.

🌿 Leeks: Mild and slightly sweet, leeks are wonderful in soups, potato dishes, casseroles, and sautés. Slice them lengthwise or into rounds and rinse thoroughly, as soil can hide between their layers.

🍎 SweeTango® Apples: Crisp, juicy, and sweet with a nice touch of tartness, these are especially good for eating fresh. Keep them refrigerated to maintain their signature crunch.

🥕 Carrots: Roast them alongside your acorn squash and onion, shred them into salads or slaws, or enjoy them fresh. Remove any tops before storing and keep the carrots refrigerated for the best shelf life.

🧅 Yellow Onion: A kitchen staple that can serve as the starting point for countless meals. Sauté it with this week’s leeks, add it to soups and stews, or roast it alongside your other vegetables. Store onions in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.

🥬 Collard Greens: Remove the tough center stems, slice the leaves into ribbons, and sauté with garlic and onion or slowly braise them until tender. A splash of vinegar or lemon juice at the end helps brighten their flavor.

🌶️ Jalapeños: Dice them into chili, soups, salsa, eggs, or sauces when you want a little extra heat. Removing the pale inner ribs can help make them milder.

🥬 Green Cabbage: Shred it for slaw, sauté it with onion, roast it in wedges, or add it to soups and stir-fries. Cabbage also keeps particularly well in the refrigerator, so it’s a good item to save if you don’t get through the entire box right away.

This week’s share also gives you some flexibility. Apples and carrots are great for snacking, while the squash, cabbage, onion, and leeks can wait a little longer if needed. And when you’re ready to cook, several of these vegetables can go straight into the same roasting pan or soup pot for an easy meal.
