I’d like to thank all of the members who were able to make it out to our Member Picnic/Sweet Corn Pick last Saturday. You are a hardy and good-natured bunch! Due to the rain on Friday, it was a bit muddy getting out to the field, but you came prepared. We enjoyed seeing familiar faces and meeting some of our newest members. And we do appreciate the feedback you offered. We got some great pictures, which we’ll be sharing in future newsletters. Thank you again for making it so much fun for all of us.
We have a beautiful purple kale to offer in this week’s share. Since so many of the recipes using kale have been side dishes, I thought a main dish recipe was in order. (Sauteed Kale and Mushrooms with Ravioli, see Recipe Section). It’s easy to make, goes together quickly, and the ravioli included in it is appealing to most kids. If you have any left over, it’s easily reheated.
The Classic Escabeche (see Recipe Section) is a way to use up several vegetables at once, and then be able to enjoy them for awhile without fear of spoiling. I don’t know about you, but some weeks I’m scrambling to use everything before the next box comes! I found this recipe helped and its versatility allowed me to try it with several different vegetables.
Enjoy the last summer holiday weekend in front of us, and to all the students going back to school, I wish you a fabulous year ahead!
