Buttercrunch Lettuce

by | Jun 20, 2016 | Market News

This week’s share includes Buttercrunch lettuce planted in either a biodegradable pot or a plastic pot, ready to cut back for your immediate use and then transplant for you to enjoy in your salads all summer long. After cutting off the larger outer leaves (to use tonight?), we suggest re-potting the lettuce into a larger pot, or planting it right in your garden.

Buttercrunch lettuce is a classic butterhead lettuce that produces a dynamic and delicious taste.  Buttercrunch lettuce has a compact head with thick, juicy, crisp green leaves tinged in red and a compact yellow-white heart.  It has a mild, buttery flavor and is excellent for salads and garnishes.

To store buttercrunch lettuce, pat dry with a paper towel and place in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.  Wash gently under cool running water just before using.  Make sure to remove any garden grit from the undersides of leaves.

Buttercrunch lettuce is an excellent source of vitamin A, a good source of vitamin C and folate.
