Sunny September

August 27, 2015

Garden Mum

As Minnesotans we cherish our short summer months.  But if you are like me, there is just something about the way the months during the fall season feel.  The days are usually clear and sunny.  The temperatures are cool and refreshing.  Change is happening all around us with the trees blasting us with bright oranges, reds and yellows.  The kids head back to school and we settle into a routine again.

In the world of gardening, mums like the cooler temperatures and push open their blooms.  And what a color show they give us.   The National Chrysanthemum Society tells us there are 13 classes of flower shapes or forms.  Within these classes are an abundance of varieties and colors.

Winter SquashIn the fields, the winter squash has matured and is filling our market.  If you are a butternut squash lover, step out of your comfort zone and give a different variety a taste.  Personally, I can’t wait for the Sweet Dumplings to arrive.  We will offer Acorn, Buttercup, Butternut, Carnival, Delicata, Hubbard, Kabocha, Spaghetti, Sweet Dumpling and Turban.  Winter squash is a good source of fiber, low in sodium and fat-free.

The best time to plant your spring bulbs is in the fall.  Choose from our many varieties of Tulips along with Allium, Hyacinth, Crocus, and Narcissus.  We are eager every spring for that first blossom to open signaling the arrival of warmer temperatures and greener landscapes.

Fall celebrations that are happening at Pahl’s Market are the Fall Festival in October, kicking off the pumpkin season, and Harvest Days in September, welcoming all that Autumn has to offers us.honey extraction seminar (2)  Harvest Days will be on Saturday, September 19th and Sunday, September 20th from 9am-5pm both days.  We will have free seminars that you can sit in on, sampling of delicious treats, and of course a sale on our fall plants, decor, and more.  Pick out a beautiful blooming mum or fall plant at great prices.  In the market building you will find beautiful and colorful fall accents for your home.  We look forward to seeing you!
