The time has finally come. This is my favorite time of the year, where mornings are crisp and you can see your breath. These cool sunny days make my job so much easier and I wish Fall could stay forever.

October Plant of the Month
A new variety of dessert apple developed by David MacGregor of Fairhaven Farms located at South Haven, Wright County, Minnesota, is now available to consumers. Kinderkrisp is an open pollinated seedling of Honeycrisp and an unknown variety.
What do you mean I can still plant in the Fall?
Fall is an excellent time to plant trees, shrubs, perennials, spring blooming bulbs and turgrass. Our incredible fall season here in Minnesota has many planting benefits. One big benefit is the cooler temperatures which are easier on plant material as well as the GARDENERS. Soil temperatures are still warm, which allows the root systems to take off, unlike spring when the soil temps are still cold.
Fall is Upon Us
With Fall weather comes time to start thinking about plant replacement, as many of the flowers you might have planted will not withstand these cold calm nights. Our mums are nice and full and offer beautiful fall color. We have several pot sizes ranging from a 9″ plastic pot to a 1 bushel wooden wire basket. All sizes offering spectacular color such as yellow, purple, and burgundy. Mums are a great way to add fall color, but they aren’t your only option. We have a wide selection of Kale, Pansies, and Swiss chard just to name a few. Mixing these in with your fall colored mums will make the neighbors jealous!
September Plant of the Month
It is not often we see Firs, the common name for the genus Abies, a hardy evergreen tree of the Pine Family, growing in the landscape throughout our area. Firs are generally conical in shape and of particular beauty in youth. Their upright cones and flat leaves (needles) distinguish them from the Spruces, which have pendant cones and angular leaves. New cones are showy, varying with different species through bright shades of purple, violet, blue, red-brown and green. Their branches are stiff and the foliage is bristly to the touch.

Already August
Well, it is hard to believe that it is already August and the first back to school commercials have started to air. We have been enjoying the nice warm beautiful days and we still have many of them to come. These days have been exceptional for our mums and they are starting to fill out beautifully,
August Thunder
August is a busy time of the year with most items running at full steam. With the recent rains we have hardly had to irrigate, but that is changing today as we are starting up three pivots.

Hard to believe August is here and fall is near. August can be a dry month so don’t forget to keep watering your gardens and lawns. A good time to pull weeds is immediately after a rainfall because it makes it easier to get the entire root out with the weed. Remember to water thoroughly and deeply when you water.
