Welcome back to another exciting week of our CSA program! We hope you’re enjoying the fresh produce and the journey towards sustainable, locally sourced food. As we enter Week 3, we are excited to showcase a variety of vibrant fruits and vegetables. So, let’s dive in and explore the bountiful harvest that awaits us!
Raspberries are included in our shares this week. Home grown berries have a shorter shelf life, so our suggestion is to use them within 1-2 days. If you come across any that have soft spots or blemishes, cut off the soft spots or toss, and use the rest. No need to throw them all out!
Kohlrabi is making another appearance in the shares this week. If this item is new to you, don’t be put off by its unusual appearance. Kohlrabi is excellent roasted in the oven or grilled. It brings out the inherent sweetness of it. Remove the green leaves (if any) from the top. These can be washed and shredded into a salad or steamed with other greens. The green leaves must be used within a day or two. The actual globe part will last several days stored in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. An easy introduction is to try it is the “Kohlrabi Home Fries” recipe. The Thyme Aioli listed with it is excellent, but ranch dressing is a good standby, especially for kids.
As a reminder: Please be sure you are given/taking the correct share size at your pickup location. Your share size is listed in the header of this email and printed on the sign off sheets at each location. Below are pictures of each share size. Please be sure you have the correct share size before leaving your pickup location. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter!
As we embrace the abundance of the season, let’s savor the freshness and nourishment that each vegetable and fruit brings to our plates. Through our participation, we are not only enjoying the benefits of sustainable, local produce but also creating a strong community centered around our shared love for delicious, wholesome food. Let’s continue to appreciate the beauty of seasonal eating and revel in the joy of our CSA journey.
