Each year around this time we like to pause and be thankful for what the Lord has given us. We have many things in our life to be thankful for and I am reminded everyday when I wake up and am able to share experiences with my wife, kids and employees.
Put the GPS on and take a nap, read the paper, eat lunch and relax. With technology ever changing in this world it is just a matter of time when we will be able to do field work from the office.
When we start slinging pumpkins every day and the mornings are cool you sense we are on the home stretch for getting things out of the field.
News from the Field
Timely rains and cooler temps have kept the irrigators at a standstill. We have yet to have to water too many things which is nice from the standpoint that Mother Nature is treating us well.
After four months of above average temps the month of May will go down as one of the coolest Mays in history.
Holy Cow! I feel like Harey Carey the old Chicago Cubs announcer. What a month. If you had a bar of soap you could have taken a shower outside almost every day and not missed a beat.
Seventy –Eight years ago my dad was 6 years old and had to learn how to crank their brand new A-Farmall. It was the first gas powered tractor of the family and the end of the team of horses, the year was 1939.
We started planting in the greenhouse two weeks ago and our first round of vegetable transplant seedlings will begin on schedule March 6th with green and red cabbage. We will also seed cauliflower, broccoli and kale that week plus some herbs.
The last of the harvesting came to an end two weeks ago and all of our tillage work was wrapped up around the same time.
