Dad is looking down shaking his head thinking I am glad where I am. Two Spring seasons back to back where it has been miserable trying to get the crops in on a timely fashion. With the cool temps and abnormal amount of rain the lakes and streams are full (with the exception of White Bear Lake). Ground water levels are being recharged and restored to normal levels in hopes of being ready when the crops need them.
Now that June is here and it is warm and sunny you can begin the grooming and pinching of certain annuals as they take off with quick growth. One of the most wonderful plants that gets even more beautiful is the Supertunia. Supertunias are one of our favorite plants for beautiful color and a wonderful growth habit. Supertunias have the capability to create branches on their stems and they really become full when you pinch them back a bit. Just cut off the longest stems a few inches to just beyond where leaves come off of a stem.

Spring is finally upon us with the days getting warmer and longer and yes the snow piles are diminishing! Hip, Hip, Hooray! Man that was a long cold winter, but we all survived thanks to all the winter activities that we do to keep us in shape (our men’s over 50 team finished a solid 4th out of four teams in our hockey league).
Now that snow is starting to melt, you may begin to notice the damage old man winter left behind on your evergreens. Minnesota is notorious for being tough on landscape plants. Your evergreen plants may have brown to rust colored damaged areas where the needles appear to have been burned. This problem is called winter burn.
