Harvest Highlights: Week 11 CSA News & Updates

Hello CSA Members, welcome back to another exciting week of our CSA journey!  As we enter Week 11, we can’t help but notice the subtle signs that summer is coming to an end (not this past weekend’s weather though, that’s for sure!).  The sun-kissed days and vibrant produce will soon give way to the rich, earthy flavors of autumn.

This week, we have a delightful assortment for your shares: sweet corn, cucumbers, tomatoes, and the last planting of fresh green beans.  Anaheim peppers and celery are making their debuts in the shares this week, and poblano peppers are making a return visit.

From crafting zesty salsas and creamy dips to preparing stuffed peppers and using them as toppings, there are countless ways to infuse your dishes with the subtle spiciness and depth of flavor that Anaheim peppers bring to the table. Whether you’re a seasoned cook or an adventurous beginner, this pepper is sure to add a delightful twist to your culinary adventures this month.

To help maintain the crispness of freshly harvested celery keep it in the vegetable crisper drawer of your refrigerator, use a plastic bag or airtight container to help retain moisture.  Placing a damp paper towel around the celery can also help maintain its moisture content and crispness.  Limpness in freshly harvested celery is not unusual, it’s generally a cosmetic issue, and the celery is still safe to eat. To revive limp celery place it in a container of ice water for about 30 minutes.  This will help rehydrate the cells and restore some of its crispness.

As the days grow shorter, let’s make the most of the remaining summer produce while also anticipating the hearty delights that autumn will bring. We look forward to continuing this journey with you as we embrace the changing seasons and the delightful produce they offer. Happy cooking, and here’s to the bountiful weeks ahead!
